Northwest Adventure Parks – Great Summer Fun!
Looking for the right outdoor adventure park for your family? We have put together a list of Northwest adventure parks in Oregon, Washington and Idaho, as well as a couple of honorable mentions. My family loves outdoor adventure parks, and they can be a particularly fun experience if you have tweens and teens (although most on this list are perfect for all kinds of ages)! I love them because you can enjoy the beauty of the outdoors, while also entertaining the family with a few thrill adventures.
I had no idea many of these places existed for many years. When I was growing up you could not just ask Google, where are the outdoor adventure parks near me? So when I discovered many of these spots, they felt like this well kept secret for insiders in the Northwest. Now we want to share them with you too.
Many of our favorite adventure parks are ski and snow resort areas during the winter, then transform into adventure parks in the summer months. For this reason, most of these are only open during summer months too.
The attractions at these outdoor adventure parks can vary quite a bit, but they usually include an attraction up in the trees (like ropes course, and zip line) as the standard. Many of the options below will include quite a bit more than that too (like alpine slides down the mountain, trampoline and even race cars!).
Whenever we share reviews of these place individually, they have been very popular. So we thought it was time to put them all into one place, so you can plan an entire vacation around them if you want to.
Outdoor Adventure Parks in Washington ::
Washington does not have as many of the larger adventure parks that we find in other NW states, but here are a few options for families to enjoy without leaving the sate.
Coming Soon – Leavenworth Adventure Park in Leavenworth Wa.
The Leavenworth Adventure Park is currently scheduled to open in May of 2023 (note the opening date has previously been pushed back, so keep an eye on it). This promises to be the biggest Adventure Park in Washington, and will include the only Alpine Slide in the area too! In addition to the Alpine Mountain Coaster, it also looks like it will include a bungee trampoline, climbing wall and mining adventure. This one looks fun, and I cannot wait for it to open!
Skamania Lodge Adventures – Stevenson Washington
Skamania Lodge is in Stevenson Washington, so while it is in Washington it also sits close to the Oregon border if you want to do some exploring in Portland. The thing we really love about this spot is that you can combine a visit to the adventure park, with a stay at the gorgeous Skamania Lodge too – so the best of all worlds.
They have the Skamania Lodge adventure park that includes the longest Zipline option in Washington – the Skamania Lodge Zipline! Plus, you will also find an Aerial Park and Axe Throwing here too. The lodge itself offers options from beautiful cabins in tree lined settings, to hotel rooms in the lodge. There are nearby hikes to waterfalls, and beautiful outdoor pool and hot tub options too. This lodge is perfect for those who love lots of amenities as well as the beautiful NW outdoors.
Mica Moon Zip Tours & Aerial Park outside of Spokane, Wa.
If you are on the Eastern side of the state, you can have fun at Aerial tree top tours, or zipline adventures with these guys.
If you want more ideas on what to do with the family while you are in Spokane, check out our Things to Do in Spokane article here too.
High Trek in Everett or High Trek in Chelan
Looking for ziplining in Washington or an aerial park.? High Trek is a fun ropes course with zip lines too. They also offer other activities like axe throwing, laser tag and putt putt. The Chelan course sits next to the Northwest’s largest Flo Rider too, if you also want to get your surf on.
We spent a day at the Everett location with my kids and had a great time. Read our full review here, we had a blast during our visit!
Honorable Mentions in Washington
Canopy Tours – Camano Island
This is a popular spot for zip lining in the NW.
La Conner is a short drive away, and their camp ground and cabins can be a fun basecamp for this outdoor adventure too.
Zip Lines and Outdoor Park for Kids at NW Trek – Enumclaw Wa.
If you are looking for a spot for young kids, this one is perfect. Northwest Trek offers zip lining and a tree top adventure for all ages (Note – this one is closed for 2022, but check back for next summer). Their Trek park for kids is open at this time though (and you can also enjoy the animal tours)!
Black Diamond Camps – Black Diamond, Wa.
Black Diamond is an outdoor Christian Adventure Camp that offers zip lining, ropes courses, hiking, swimming, outdoor games, go karts, archery and so much more. Many years they have offered a free adventure day to come experience the facilities (those have been suspended since Covid, but keep an eye on their site to see if they return). In the meantime, you can register your kids for day camps to experience all of these fun adventures. All of my kids have gone and loved it there!
It is perfect for lots of ages (they have a small zip line for younger kids and a bigger one in the trees for older kids for example). There is also a large rock climbing and repelling wall in their huge gym area, and so much more for families to enjoy.
Bellevue Zip Line Tours – Bellevue Wa.
If you want to stay close to the city, this one is the perfect option. They offer zip line tours, Aerial Adventure Play Days, and a climbing wall.
If you are not from the area, and want to stay overnight – we love the Bellevue Embassy Suites as a base camp, and have lots of ideas of other things you can do on a Bellevue Staycation here too.
Outdoor Adventure Parks in Oregon ::
Mt. Hood Skibowl Summer Adventure Park – Mt. Hood, Oregon
I would say this is the most popular Adventure Park we have shared about. I have visited multiple times with my family, and everyone loves it. The back drop is Mt. Hood (beautiful back drop) and they have a huge alpine slide that you take the ski chair lifts up to and ride in a toboggan on the way down. In a separate area they offer zip lining, bungee jumping, aerial ropes course, race cars, and so much more.
Another thing I really love about this park is that there are attractions for big kids and little kids (for example they have two set of race car tracks, one is the grand prix for the big kids and the other is smaller and more controlled area for smaller kids).
We usually make this one into a vacation by staying in a cabin or tiny house here, but there is everything from camping to luxury resorts in the area, making it a super fun weekend getaway too.
Whitewater Park in Bend Oregon
This one is different than the others we have shared here, in that it is a whitewater park that offers free access to the public (but does not include things like aerial tree parks, or ziplines), so definitely something different. It is a one of a kind, and my kids loved it here – just wish we had more time to spend enjoying the rapids, and if you are looking for outdoor adventures, this qualifies as that!
We share more info on it here, in our Fun Things to do in Sunriver/Bend article. I can tell you my teens loved the Whitewater park, so be sure to check it out if you have kids in that age range!
The Salishan Coastal Lodge
This resort has an Aerial Park, as well as a Pump Track, so it is worth mentioning too. That and it is on the Oregon Coast!
Outdoor Adventure Parks in Idaho ::
Schweitzer – Sandpoint, Idaho
This resort offers one of the best adventure parks in the Idaho area for families to enjoy. Like many of the others this resort offers skiing and other snow activities in the winter, but come summer time it transforms into an adventure park! It is in the Sandpoint Idaho area so you can combine a trip here with other fun summer activities like time at the lake, or a visit to the Silverwood theme park too!
You can stay onsite as an overnight stay, or just come up to visit and buy a day pass to enjoy the adventures. There is so much to do onsite, including zip lines, lift rides, mountain biking, e- bike rides, hiking trails, trampoline jumps, horseback riding and more!
Bogus Basin – near Boise, Idaho
Bogus Basin and the Basin Gravity Park will not disappoint adventure seekers. It is located right outside of Boise Idaho, and offers lots of options for families during summer months. They have a Glade Runner Mountain Coaster, cross country biking, the Basin Gravity Bike park with fun for all levels of experience, scenic chairlift rides, hiking , ziplining, summer tubing, rock climbing, trampoline jumpers, skills course and more.
Tree to Tree Outdoor Adventure Park at Farragut State Park
We love to camp at Farragut State Park, and I cannot believe I did not know this one existed until now. The Tree to Tree Outdoor Adventure Park access makes camping at Farragut that much better. This spot offers zip lining and tree top adventure courses for lots of different ages.
Plus, it is close to Silverwood – so if you wanted to combine an outdoor adventure park experience with a theme park experience this is the spot to do it.
Honorable Mentions in Idaho
Silver Mountain Resort – Kellogg, Idaho
The Silver Mountain Resort is less of a typical adventure park, but does offer some fun outdoor adventures and more – so we thought it was worth an honorable mention here. The reason they made the list is their outdoor bike park, where you can load your bike on the gondola and ride it down the mountain in the summers. Plus, the gondola ride is the longest in the North America, and you can easily access the Route of the Hiawatha bike ride just a short drive away too. There are miles of rail to trail bike routes in the area as well.
Plus they have great indoor waterpark, with a flow rider in the waterpark for those that want to practice their surf skills too!
Outdoor Adventure Parks in Montana ::
Whitefish Mountain Resort – Whitefish, Montana
While we realize that Montana is not typical Northwest, this one is located in NW Montana and is a very reasonable drive from the Puget Sound area. We have done it and loved our stay here. The Whitefish Mountain Resort transforms from a winter ski resort into an outdoor adventure park in the summer, complete with alpine slide down the mountain, aerial adventure park, mountain biking, gondola and more!
