Peppermint & White Chocolate Dipped Pretzel Rods – So Simple & Fun to Make!

These Peppermint & White Chocolate Dipped Pretzel Rods are not only simple to make but so festive for entertaining this time of the year too. Because they only require a few ingredients, they are also very affordable. My favorite thing though, is how flexible this recipe is. You can use this basic idea to make so many different combinations. We did the white chocolate and peppermint for the holidays, but the options are many!

You only need three ingredients to make these treats, and no baking is required. It does not get much easier than these.

There are a couple of reasons that I love to make various versions of these chocolate covered pretzel rods. They include:

  • They are so affordable to make. Pretzel rods are very affordable, and one package is enough to feed a crowd.
  • It is a simple recipe! You can make them without a lot of effort. You melt your chocolate in the microwave, dip your pretzel rod, and sprinkle your topping on and let them do the rest of the work!
  • The recipe is so flexible. You can use whatever candy melts you like, and sprinkles or toppings. This makes them perfect for so many different occasions. For example you can:
    • dip them in milk chocolate and sprinkle on mini marshmallows for fun additions to hot chocolate bars
    • use red or green melting candys for Christmas, orange or black for Halloween, pink and yellow for Easter, and so on…
    • dip in dark chocolate and drizzle with white chocolate to make a fancier version of them

These are also really fun to make as a DIY Gift too. Just grab some of these clear cellophane bags to wrap them in, and they make the perfect gift. Give just a few, or a full dozen, and they show beautifully too!

And if you love peppermint, you will want to check out these special holiday recipes too:

Ingredients for these Peppermint & White Chocolate Dipped Pretzel Rods

You will need these three ingredients, as well as some parchment paper to let them cool on.

  • Pretzel Rods
  • 1 cup Melting White Chocolate or white chocolate chips
    • Note – you can use the white candy melts too, but they have a slightly different taste than real white chocolate does. However, they are very easy to work with and sometimes more affordable.
  • 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candies or peppermint candy canes (or candy of your choice)
    • Note – if you buy the small peppermint candy canes they are easier to crush, but will crush into smaller pieces (so will look more like a dusting than the chunky candy pieces you see here).

How to Make these Peppermint & White Chocolate Dipped Pretzel Rods

As we mentioned above, this recipe is really flexible. We used white chocolate and mint candys for the holiday season. You could use any kind of chocolate that melts well, as well as the different colored candy melts. And you can also use sprinkles or things like nuts to sprinkle on them too. So use what you like best, but the idea is that these come together quickly and affordably, and make a great option for fun treats.

Start by adding your peppermint candies to a Ziploc bag, and crush them up into the sizes you want to sprinkle on your chocolate pretzel rods.

You can also put candy canes or your peppermint candies into a blender or food processor to break them up that way. This will result in more of a dust consistency and you can roll your dipped pretzel rods in that for a different look.

Next you will need to melt your chocolate. You can do this one of two ways:

Either melt them in a pan, over medium heat, stirring consistently. Even better use a double broiler to melt them over the stove.

Or put them in a microwave safe bowl and microwave for a minute and stir. Then do 30 second intervals and stir in between until they are all melted (usually just need one 30 second round). This is my preferred method. It just makes it so simple!

Transfer to a tall thin cup. The reason the size of the cup matters is that the chocolate coating will only come up as far as you can dip it.

Lay out a piece of parchment paper.

Dip each pretzel rod into the white chocolate and then lay flat on the parchment paper.

Lastly, sprinkle each one with crushed peppermint.

You could also put the crushed peppermint on a flat cutting board and roll them in the peppermints and coat all over.

Lay out on parchment paper until the chocolate is set. Once the chocolate is set (hard to the tough) they are ready to serve or add to bags for gifting!
