One Lakeside Coeur d’Alene – Beautiful Condo Style Resort Stay
We recently enjoyed a magical mini getaway at One Lakeside, when we took a weekend trip over to Coeur d’Alene for a quick winter vacation. It was such a wonderful getaway, and much of that was because of the spot we stayed. We stayed at the One Lakeside hotel on this trip, and it was one of our favorites in that area! The hotel was the highlight, but add to that many wonderful things to do in the area, and it was the perfect winter getaway for us. I loved having walking access to all that the downtown area offers, but also really loved coming back to a beautiful room with great views to relax in at the end of the day (and starting my day there with locally brewed coffee they provide too).
It is an amazing option for families, couples or a girls getaway. We will share our experience here, as well as everything I can think of that you will need to know to determine if it is a great fit for you too. We have stayed at many locations in this area, and this was one of my personal favorites. We enjoyed lazy mornings, sunsets off of our balcony in the evenings, walking to dinner and wine hours, lake cruises right across the street and so much more. You can come for a weekend and enjoy the entire time in a few block radius of the hotel. Or make it a longer stay, and we provide lots of ideas of things for all ages to do in the area if you crave more adventure too. Whatever your travel style, this is the place to make your base camp to really enjoy it all!
If you decide to book a stay, be sure to check out our article on Things to Do In Coeur d’Alene Idaho, as most of these things are in walking distance from One Lakeside.
Overview of One Lakeside in Coeur d’Alene
This hotel is new (just opened last year), and is a really wonderful option for families because of the size of the rooms. It could also be a fun spot for a couples getaway or a girls getaway too with some of the amenities available to those 18 and older.
It is owned by the Columbia Hospitality group, who owns a number of other locations that Thrifty Northwest Mom readers have loved over the years (and we have too)! Spots like the Cedarbrook, Heathman, Semiahmoo and Interurban Hotel to mention a few (many more too). So you know that the stay will be of a certain caliber with any hotel owned by this group. They do not own a hotel I would not recommend staying at!
This was part of the view out our balcony!
Room size, options and views
There were so many things that I loved about staying at the One Lakeside hotel, but two of my very favorites where:
- The size of the rooms – so great for families or anyone wanting more space to spread out.
- The proximity to downtown! Wonderful restaurants and shops, walks around the lake, and much more are just steps from the hotel.
We have enjoyed many stays in the beautiful Northern Idaho area over the years, and this ranks right up there with one of my favorites! The room was one of the very nicest we have stayed in in this area, and there are so many amenities nearby that I would highly recommend it. They have living rooms, dining rooms and kitchens you can cook in (this always helps me save money on vacation), as well as outdoor balconies to enjoy gorgeous lake views (the views will range from partial to full, depending on the room you stay in).
This is the living space in the 3 bedroom.
Here is a breakdown of what you need to know when booking a room at One Lakeside:
This is an all suites hotel. They offer one, two and three bedroom suites that all come equipped with bedroom/s, living space, kitchen, laundry and balconies. The views will vary (but there is not really a bad one in the hotel). We will break down all those details for you here, so you know what booking will work best for you.
Check out this video of the three bedroom suite we stayed in. You will see it has enough room to share with another family, if you want to cut down on costs!
Three bedroom suite –
I am going to start with the three bedroom suite, although this is the most expensive option. I am starting with this one, as we stayed in it ourselves (and adored it), but also because it can be an affordable option if you are splitting it with family/friends. For example, we were traveling with 3 generations (Grandma, myself and my teens). Often times my sister will come along too. If that were the case, we could have comfortably slept us all (two in one room, one in another, and the teens in a third) and split the cost of this room three ways. That is without even using the pull out couch in the living room (this spot sleeps 8!). So this room offers lots of options to split costs amongst families if you want to save.
This room is the crowning jewel of this hotel. It sits on the 6th floor (highest floor for hotel rooms), and has front facing views of the lake, as well as city views from the bedrooms. We travel quite a bit and we were all “wowed” with this room.
One and two room suites
These are also wonderful options for families, that will cost less. The one bedroom unit is perfect for a family of 4 and is the most affordable option. You will still get a kitchen to cook in (save money on dining out), laundry so you can pack light (one of my favorite features) and an extra living space and balcony to spread out so you are not on top of each other in one room during your stay! This one sleeps 4.
The two bedroom unit sleeps 6, so it is a great option for two smaller families, or one large family. I know when we travel as a party of 6 we often have to book two rooms when staying in a standard hotel set up, so this is a much nicer alternative to that.
Views at this hotel – pretty spectacular!
Honestly, I did not think there was a bad view in the entire hotel (we were able to tour rooms on all sides to be able to share with you). Some are nicer than others, but those are the rooms that will cost a little more too. Here are the three types of views from the rooms (these are from my perspective – not official hotel ratings).
Front facing views of the lake:
Ok, there is just no denying it – these are fabulous! I mean the views from these rooms are pretty spectacular. You may pay a little more for these rooms, but if the best view is important to you, these are the ones you want. These will be the 3 bedroom suite, and some of the 2 bedrooms as well. The best part of these, is that you really get ALL of the views.
We could see the city, huge views of the lake, and the park as well. Sunsets from our terrace where beautiful, and all the city lights illuminated in the evenings. Enjoying coffee out here in the morning was a highlight for me as well. Can you tell I loved this spot!
This is the city view behind one of my girls, in the room she was staying in. The city view rooms will also have a partial lake view too. If you are staying in one of the front facing rooms (3 bedroom units, and some 2 bedrooms), you will have multiple views from your room.
City views, with partial lake views:
-
- These rooms where my favorites, after the front facing views. You will get a city view (up the main downtown corridor of Coeur d’Alene), as well as partial lake views (out over the Coeur d’Alene Resort area of the lake).
Park views, with partial lake views:
-
- These are the rooms on the west side of the building. They will be the one bedroom suites and some two I think as well. They overlook the park, and have partial lake views as well. Some of them will be sitting over another building, so you may see some roof-tops, but still a wonderful opportunity to get those beautiful peaks of the lake over the park area. These will also often be your most affordable options – so while they may not have the all encompassing views of the front facing rooms, they are a wonderful option to get a partial lakeview at a value!
Amenities at the hotel
Roof Top Deck & Hot Tub
There is this beautiful roof top deck that includes a one of a kind hot tub (with panoramic view of the lake), and they have tables with fire pits you can have them light up in the evenings to enjoy.
It is important to note that the roof top deck is only accessible to guest 18 and over, and for an additional fee of $25 per person per night. This is because this hotel is also part of owners living there (folks who have purchased a condo there) and this is one of their amenities, so you will need to buy into that if you want to enjoy it for an evening. If you are visiting with those 18 and over, it looks amazing though! It really was a one of a kind location, to sit back and relax any time of the day.
Attached Marketplace
They have the cutest little store that is attached to the hotel (but you do have to walk outside to reach it – just a quick walk out one door and into another really). This spot is a place you can get some cute little gift items or any necessities you may have forgotten. They do also have food and drinks if you need anything for your kitchen. It is a convenience market, so you will pay convenience prices, but it was really nice to have it so close by. If you are staying at the hotel you get 10% off, so be sure to mention that!
They offer lattes if you want some specialty coffee in the morning, but my favorite thing was their happy hour from 4-7pm. It was the best deal I could find in town. Get a glass of wine for under $5 after the hotel discount and happy hour price (and they were serving wines like the Chateau Ste Michelle brand when we visited). Super price for a glass of that wine! We loved this corner table, but there was a gas fireplace you could relax by too.
Secured Parking Garage
You will not have to worry about parking or your car, while staying at the hotel. This was a nice perk for us coming from the Seattle area. They have a secured parking garage, that you will need a key card to enter. Then you can enter the hotel directly from the parking area. I never once worried about our car while we were there, and getting in and out was super simple.
This was our kitchen in our 3 bedroom unit.
Order Groceries Before You Arrive!
This is such a convenient feature. You can order your groceries so that once you arrive you are ready to relax with everything you need. They have a number of stores available to order through Instacart, so you will have everything you need. Details on how to do that are here.
Having a kitchen in our unit always helps my family save big on food costs. I can use some of my regular grocery budget towards buying food to have on hand in the hotel, and then we just go out when we want to. It is not only more convenient, but also more affordable. If it is saving me $100 a day on food (that is really just cutting one meal out per day right now at the current costs of eating out), then I can put that money towards staying in a nicer room.
Lake Coeur d’Alene Out Your Front Door
We mention the views above, but this is a big draw here. You literally have the lake right across the street. My girls started every morning with a walk over at the lake. It was beautiful, and would be an even bigger draw in the summer too!
Specials & package rates for your stay:
I suggest calling them directly to get the scoop on the best rates they have available, but here are a couple of current promotions going on right now.
Northwest Promotion – $199 a Night! Call the hotel to see if they are still offering this promotion, but they often do throughout the winter. This rate is often available for 1 bedroom suites to those who live in Washington, Idaho and Montana (if you are in Oregon call and ask for it too – chances are they will honor it for you too).
Black Friday Sale – They frequently offer two and three-bedroom suites at a discount for Black Friday. Rates are going to vary depending on when you book, but we found rates as low as $130/ nt in previous years.
Find more Special and Packages currently available here too!
You can compare these rates to other hotels in the Coeur dAlene area here too.
Things to Do In Coeur d’Alene
We share a big round up of Things To do in Coeur d’Alene, as well more ideas in Northern Idaho.
There are so many things to do in the Coeur d’Alene area to make it a memorable getaway, as well as more ideas for things to do in nearby Spokane here too. In addition to these resources, here are some of things we love to do in the area.
Ice Skating Outdoors
The outdoor ice skating rink is where my kids liked to spend each evening for some fun before bed. The ice skating rink is down in the middle of town, and is all lit up with lights and lots of fun for kids of all ages. They have supports to assist new skaters too, so all are welcome. You will pay per timeslot, so be sure to check out their schedule to take full advantage of the time you want to book (they are 90 minute time slots so you will want to be sure to be there at the start)! Find all of the current booking times here.
You can book an igloo to relax in with seating and a fireplace starting at $90 per session (they seat 8, and include loaded hot chocolate). Skate admission is separate. Find more info here on these options.
There were tons of stores and restaurants to explore right along main street and behind. Enjoy treats, meals, wine and beer tastings and some shopping – all within easy walking distance from the hotel.
There were also lakefront dining options, including eating in a tent overlooking the lake! I loved that there were options for all kinds of budgets (family friendly spots as well as splurge options).
We loved a few spots like Titos Italian, and Dockside, both of which are a few blocks from the hotel and in walking distance. If you are looking for more recommendations on where to eat, check out this list of top 10 family dining spots in Northern Idaho here.
Plus, if you are up for about a 5 minute drive, head up to the Village at Riverstone, for more dining options as well as shops, movie theaters and nail salons. We always make a stop here and have a great time during our visits.
Book a Lake Cruise While in the Area With CDA Cruises!
We enjoyed a scenic lake cruise on a Saturday during our visit, but this time of the year they have beautiful holiday cruises you can enjoy out on the lake too! During the winter months you can book a Journey to the North Pole onboard Lake Coeur d’Alene Cruises to see 1.5 million twinkling lights, a fire-breathing dragon and even visit Santa at his workshop to maximize your holiday magic vibes on your getaway!
Snow Tubing, Skiing and Winter Fun
You will find lots of snow activities just a short drive from downtown. Enjoy snow shoeing, skiing, snow boarding, snow tubing and gondola rides for a day out, then come back to your cozy room at the end of the day to unwind.
Silver Mountain is about a 40 minute trip from downtown Coeur d’Alene, and they offer lots of fun winter activities like:
-
- Snow Tubing
- Skiing
- Gondola Rides
Or a bit further is Schweitzer Mountain, which also offers all of the fun winter sports too (including snow tubing)!
Waterparks (indoor and outdoor)
Regardless of what time of the year you are visiting there are a few options for Waterparks. A couple are year round, and one is only in the summer, but if this is something your family enjoys then One Lakeside is the perfect base camp to enjoy waterpark fun year round! Here are a couple of options in the area:
- Silver Mountain Resort is about 40 minutes away (towards the Montana border) and offers the year round Silver Rapids indoor waterpark for families to enjoy.
- Triple Play Waterpark is about a 15-20 minute drive up the street, and has not only offers the Raptor Reef indoor waterpark, but also tons of other activities for families (it is a full blown family fun center). So enjoy video games, ropes courses, race cars, and more here!
- Boulder Beach up at Silverwood is definitely the very best waterpark in the area, but is only open during the summer months. If you are looking to book a summer stay at One Lakeside, it makes a perfect day outing while there.
Head over to Wallace for Some Gold Mining & Cave Tours –
Wallace is another fun day trip to take from the area. You can find spots to do cave tours (of mining caves), practice some gold mining of your own, enjoy great restaurants, quirky photo opps, and some history of the area too. Check out the gold mine, silver mine and cave tours here.
More Ideas if You Visit In the Summer
One Lakeside would be an ideal family getaway in the summer. To start off with you are in walking distance to the public beach at the lake. If you have kids of any age, this will be amazing…but especially if you are traveling with teens. In addition to the lake access, park access and downtown Coeur d’Alene being in walking distance, here are some more fun things to incorporate into a summer getaway over here.
Silverwood Theme Park
Silverwood is not too far from this area. Personally I think that One Lakeside would be an ideal location to set up camp for families when visiting Silverwood in the summers. You will have your own kitchen to cook in, helping you to control the cost of eating out, you can do laundry after a long day at the park, and you have easy access to lots more that the area has to offer in addition to theme park fun. After playing hard at the theme park, you can come back to a condo style unit, with lots of room for everyone to have their own space to unwind at the end of the day.
Route of the Hiawatha Bike Ride
This was one of my all time favorite days in the Northern Idaho area on one summer getaway here. It is magical! You experience the beauty of the outdoors on a mostly leisurely bike ride down what used to be an old train route (so you will cross trestles, and go through tunnels and more! If you like to spend time in the outdoors, check this spot out for sure.
If you are planning to make a road trip from the Seattle area to Coeur d’Alene, we have some ideas of stops you may enjoy along the way here too. All in all, there is so much to do in this area and you can get there by car from the Seattle area (no expensive flights required). It offers year round fun, and you will definitely want to consider One Lakeside as your base camp to stay at during your visit!
