Oaks Amusement Park in Portland Oregon
Have you been to the Oaks Park Amusement Park in the Portland area? If not, it is a classic carnival style amusement park, that is open year round and is the perfect spot for family fun.
My family loves amusement parks, especially ones we can get to by driving from here in the Northwest, so we had to try out the Oaks Amusement park in Portland Oregon. We will share more about our experience at this park, but if you also love amusement parks, here are more in the northwest worth checking out:
- Silvewood Theme Park + Boulder Beach Water Park – This one is the largest in the northwest and one of our very favorites)!
- WIld Waves Amusement Park + Water Park – This one is just outside of Seattle and fun if you are in the area.
- Northwest Adventure Parks – This is a fun list if you like to be outdoors, and experience fun adventures. The best mix of theme park like fun, and the outdoor beauty of the northwest.
- Family Fun Center Discount Ticket Offers – find those here!
One thing that is unique about Oaks Amusement Park, is that it is an unusual mix of amusement park fun, and family fun center fun. The amusement park is reminiscent of an old school carnival, with rides for big kids and little kids to enjoy. But there is more too. You will also find a full roller skating rink on site, putt putt golf, carnival games and more. That also offers more flexibility for different budgets too, as you could enjoy a day of skating and carnival games for a few hours, or splurge on the full ride bracelet and spend the whole day here.

Oaks Amusement Park Rides + More About Oaks Park::
We visited during a previous summer (when my kids where elementary age), and had a great time. To be honest, I am not sure I would plan a trip to Portland just for this amusement park, but it is a fun stop as part of a larger trip. We took a short weekend trip down to Portland and spent a day at this park. If your kids like the carnivals that get set up in your city, this amusement park is very reminiscent of that, only it is bigger, cleaner and more permanent. There is also a skating rink that you can enjoy as part of the packages too, or putt putt golf and go karts as well.
My girls loved that they had the carnival games available to play too, and not just rides to enjoy. It is small enough that you can easily do it in a day or less, and there is something to do for all ages. It sits near a local river front park, so you could combine a visit with a picnic at the park too. There are many festivals and events through the year today, so you can consider planning a visit around one of those (there were tons of food trucks lining the river area when we were there for example).
One thing I loved about this spot was that you do not have to pay to get in (with the exception of special holidays like 4th of July or Oktoberfest). You can just pay for the rides for those who will be riding. For my family this saves me money, as I never go on too many of the rides (so I dont buy a bracelet – just get one for my kids who are old enough to ride alone). This saves me over places like Wild Waves where I have to pay just to get in the park, so I love that.
We visited over a peak weekend in the summer, and the crowds where not bad at all. Parking is affordable but can get busy and my kids never stood in any lines that were too long (at least from what we are used to). It is not a huge park, but big enough for a days worth of fun.
Hotels Near Oaks Amusement Park Portland Oregon –
One of the things I like about this location, is that it is only 3.5 miles from Southeat Portland. Theat means that it is a great spot to combine with a bigger Portland trip for your family. That also means there are lots of hotel options in the area, as well as restaurants and shops, etc. You could really choose any of your favorite hotels in the Portland area to enjoy a trip here.
Since we are not from the area, we rented a hotel for the weekend (we stayed in this Best Western Portland West Beaverton, because we got it for under $100 a night, and it was an easy drive from her to many places we wanted to visit in the area). It was a great stay for that price.
This was the outdoor pool area at the hotel if you go in the summer.
It was near Washington Park too, so we spent a day there, and then the drive to the amusement park was easy as well. It was about a 20 minute drive away.
A couple more options that might be nice for families in the area include:
The Residence Inn by Marriott Portland Downtown/RiverPlace is about a 15 minute drive away, and I love the Residence Inns for families.
Embassy Suites are also great for families, and this Embassy Suites by Hilton Portland is about 20 minutes away.
The Rivers Edge Hotel is only about 10 minutes away, if you are looking for something closer too.
