Hot Chocolate Bombs with White Chocolate + Caramel
One of the most popular items to shop for this Christmas are the hot chocolate bombs that many stores are selling. However, they sell out so quickly, since they are all the rage! Everyone from kids to teens to adults are loving this trend because it’s so fun to watch it “explode” in your milk & provides such a yummy treat, too!
Since these are so popular, we thought it would be fun to show you how to make hot chocolate bombs at home! This way you can make as many as you’d like & not pay the higher prices you would be paying in stores! Plus, you will know all of the ingredients you are using & you can make all sorts of fun flavors, too!
Since so many of the recipes we’ve seen stick with the basic hot chocolate bombs with marshmallows, we thought we would share a fun twist you could make with some new flavors to give your hot chocolate a little pizazz! These hot chocolate bombs are made with white chocolate chips & caramel chips, plus the mini marshmallows, of course. Just a fun spin on your typical hot chocolate flavors!
With hot chocolate bombs, you will fill the hot chocolate ball with your add-ins (in this case, milk chocolate + white chocolate + caramel chips + mini marshmallows). Then you will place your hot chocolate ball inside a mug & fill it with warm milk. As you pour the milk over the hot chocolate bomb, it will “explode” & melt into your mug as hot chocolate & fill your mug with all of these unique flavors & marshmallows! It’s kind of mesmerizing to watch, too!
I have been noticing that these DIY hot chocolate bombs have been so popular in all of the local buying/selling groups on Facebook, as they are so unique to give as gifts! These would make such great DIY gifts for your neighbors, for kids or teens to gift friends, & to give family & friends. Make them more unique with different flavors depending on your friend or family member’s likes!
Hot Chocolate Bombs with White Chocolate + Caramel:
Makes: 6 balls
Prep time: 20 minutes
Total time: 60 minutes
Ingredients:
1 cup of milk chocolate chips
1 cup of white chocolate chips
1 cup of hot chocolate mix
1 cup of mini marshmallows
½ of caramel chips (I used toffee chips) – if you can’t find them in your grocery store, Amazon has a lot of different options too. Or you could use our homemade caramel sauce
This is the size of the silicon sphere mold that I used with these hot chocolate balls (2.6″ diameter inside), but there are other options on Amazon that are very similar in size which would work, too.
Directions:
Melt the chocolate chips, first the milk chocolate and then the white chocolate in the microwave or on a double broiler and using a spoon or small spatula scoop a small amount into the silicone molds.
Place a scoop of milk chocolate and then white chocolate on either side of the sphere, mix the chocolate slightly and then drag the chocolate up the sides and place in the freezer for 10 minutes. Remove and fill in any spots you missed. Place back into the freezer to set for 5 minutes.
Remove molds from the freezer. Even out the half circle on a warm pan so that the tops are not ragged. Do this carefully so you don’t melt the whole sphere.
In one side of the sphere, place in two tbsp of hot chocolate mix top with mini marshmallows. Place about a tbsp of caramel chips (or homemade caramel sauce) on top. You can “overfill” the sphere a bit since the top of the sphere will close the ball.
Warm the other half of the sphere so that the edges are a bit melty and place it immediately onto the other half of the sphere. Press gently and place back into the freezer for 5 minutes to set.
When you are ready to serve place the ball in a mug and pour hot milk on top and watch the marshmallows pop out! Stir and enjoy.
Mix well to combine all the caramel chips and chocolate together. This hot chocolate is a bit thicker and is delicious.
