Patriotic Healthy Flag Snack for Summer
I love all the fun patriotic recipes you can make for the holidays like 4th of July, Memorial Day, and Labor Day! They are always a hit with kids & adults alike but you most often see the popular flag desserts that people will bring to a BBQ or party. I was looking for something healthier to bring to our 4th of July gathering last year, so we made this patriotic flag snack using summer produce! It’s the perfect time to take advantage of all the delicious berries or cherries & have a light & refreshing patriotic snack!
Easy & Healthy Patriotic Flag Snack:
Ingredients:
- Blueberries
- Raspberries (or cherries)
- Strawberries
- Yogurt covered pretzels (or white chocolate covered pretzels)
Directions:
Use a rectangular shaped serving platter (mine is actually a plastic serving tray from Party City, which you can reuse, but it’s a great shape for the flag)
Wash and cut all your fruit. You can leave the strawberries with the stems for a quick snack or cut the stems off to make it more uniform with the colors.
Alternate rows with the red fruit & the yogurt/chocolate covered pretzels. You can really use any red fruit that you like – strawberries, cherries, raspberries, red apples (if you have the skin part showing). We just love the berries, so used the strawberries & raspberries.
Save space in the left corner for your blueberries for the blue background for the stars. I used a square shaped bowl to contain the blueberries since it was the perfect fit & made it easier for transport to our 4th of July party, but you could just put them directly on the plate, too, in a square shape & just rearrange if you are transporting to a party.
That’s it – such a fast, simple dessert/snack that you can throw together for a party at your house or if you’re headed to a get-together for the holiday.
