Disney Advent Calendars – Storybook, Marvel & More!
The Disney Advent calendar storybooks are one of the most popular things we share about this time of the year. Families love them, and so we wanted to provide a review of a couple of the most popular ones we see, to give those of you who have not ordered them before a real-life view of how they work. We will also share any sale information we find on them below to help you get the best price.

** Update for the Disney Storybook 2024 Calendars – the 2024 Disney Storybook is NOW available! The following review is for a previous year’s calendars, but will give you a good idea of how they work (and how much kids love them)!
My kids are teens now, but we have so many Christmas memories from great advent calendars, so I was looking forward to reviewing a couple of these with some special family friends who are a bit younger than my kids are now. Although I remembered how much my kids loved them, it was so fun to see how excited my buddy Josiah got over this year’s Marvel calendar. He loves Marvel (Spider-Man in particular), so when we matched him up with this advent calendar it was magic. We will share more about the review below, but it was so fun to see the excitement in the kids as we gifted them these advent calendars. It brought back so many memories of when my kids were younger.
There are advent calendars that will cover many kids’ favorite topics, from Disney characters to Marvel characters, and more in the storybook options. We will be sharing a real-life review of the Disney Storybook Advent Calendar and the Marvel Advent Calendar here, as we know there is a big interest in these two. This will give you a glimpse into what to expect with the advent calendars and then you can order the one that is best suited to the things your child loves.
There are many different kinds of advent calendars out there, but I love the storybook ones as they promote reading for kids and families, while also creating special memories. Another thing that I really love about these story ones, for younger kids especially, is that they give you a nighttime routine during what can be a busy month (December), with holiday activities. You can end each evening by spending a little time with them reading, as well as creating a wind-down time before bed that they will look forward to. It is a special tradition your kids will remember when they have their own kids, and may even want to recreate it.
Here are some more ideas you can get for your kids or grandkids, depending on their interests:

I love these advent calendars, not only for your own children, but they also make wonderful gifts for grandkids, or other children you want to gift a pre-holiday present to. They help make the holidays even more magical and create memories they will carry with them into adulthood. We see so many great deals on Christmas pajamas and blankets this time of the year, that I think making a special gift basket for a loved one. Add some PJs, an advent calendar a special blanket, and maybe even a stuffed animal to a gift basket. It will be a great way to help them enjoy the holidays! I made this one for a special little guy in our life. It’s such a fun way to help families make the holidays just a little bit more magical.
These would also be fun to gift to someone or use in your own family if you enjoy the 25 Days of Books for Christmas tradition. These mini storybooks already come wrapped, so it saves you all the work.
We picked these two, to review, just to give you some real-life perspective on what they are really like if you order them. If you have a kiddo who is more into the Disney princesses vs. Marvel, there is a Princess Storybook Advent calendar you could grab or Cocomelon is popular this year too. These advent calendars are so popular that they are known to sell out (or jump up in price), so it is always a good idea to get them sooner rather than later if you can.
One thing we love about the storybook advent calendars is that they not only include 24 unique paperback books in decorative holiday paper envelopes, but you will also find new stories each year. This means that you can truly make it a tradition to get a new one each year for your family.
Marvel Advent Calendar
Josiah was so excited to get the Marvel one. He is five years old and was all smiles once he saw that Marvel cover. I did give him one of the gift baskets I mentioned above, with some Christmas PJs, a Christmas blanket, and stuffed animals with the Marvel advent calendar. He was already wearing his favorite Spider-Man pjs though, and that seemed perfect to start exploring the Marvel advent calendar. I wanted to keep most of it a surprise for when December starts, but I let him pick out two numbers to try out two books to review for you guys. Wouldn’t you know it…one of the books was his favorite character Spidey! He loved that.
Being 5, he is not reading just yet himself (his mom will read him the books as part of their December nightly bedtime routine), but that did not seem to be an issue. He went through that book page by page, telling me what was going on in the story on each page. His imagination made the story fun for even me. I know the advent calendars are meant for the kids, but his excitement about it all made me love them too.
The way that they work is that each day, from December 1 to December 24, there is a number in the calendar. You then can read your child a story from the corresponding number to the day of the month, each day, to count down the days until Christmas.
I liked to put up a mini Christmas tree by my kid’s bed, and then light it up at night before story time (it acted like a night light). After bath and brushing teen, kids can then pick out the book for the night of the month it is, and you can talk about how many days are left until Christmas, then read them their story. Then at lights out time, you can leave the Christmas night light on as they drift off to sleep.
My kids still talk about how much they loved story time before bed during the December countdown to Christmas.
Another thing I love about these Storybook Advent Calendars is how big they are. They are the size of a small toddler – and so seem huge to young kids. When Josiah was sitting down next to the calendars, it was about as tall as he was sitting. They seem large to me as an adult, but can you imagine how grand this must feel to kids?
Disneys Storybook Advent Calendar 2022 –
This is Jovanni, and the Disney Storybook Advent Calendar is almost as big as he is! I wanted to show a couple of different ages because these advent calendars are really perfect for any age of child who likes to have a story read to them (or read one themselves). That means they work perfectly for toddlers through elementary ages.
Mom will be reading him his stories at bedtime, but he was fascinated with all of the brightly colored envelopes that the books are concealed inside of.
If I did not know better, I would think he was actually reading the book. The pictures had him captivated, and he sure looks like he knows what he is reading.
The Disney Storybook Advent Calendar works just like the Marvel one we shared about above. There are 24 envelopes, numbered from 1 to 24, and each has a different Disney story to read each night, leading up to Christmas Eve. It includes many favorite Disney characters, so if you have a Disney fan, this calendar is a great option for them.
The Storybook and Marvel advent calendars are almost the size of a toddler, so they will feel really grand to little ones. Plus, it is fun for moms and dads to have something to make bedtime routines organized (or you could set up any time of the day for the story readings).
