Berry Pineapple Smoothie
A favorite breakfast item in our house are smoothies & we love to experiment with different flavors for smoothies. I love that I can get more fruit & veggies into my family’s diet on a regular basis by using smoothies. Smoothies are also great for those busy back to school mornings or the hectic work week when you need a grab & go quick breakfast.
These are very freezer friendly. One way to make them so they really are grab & go in the mornings is to make a large batch (or several batches) of this Berry Pineapple Smoothie recipe. Then freeze them in small mason jars or to-go cups with lids. You can set them out to thaw when you first wake up & they’ll be ready after about an hour to take with you in the car or on the way to work. No prep work needed for a healthy, delicious breakfast for the kids or for your day at work!
Berry Pineapple Smoothie:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup orange juice
- 1/4 cup pineapple juice
- 2 pineapple slices
- 6 fresh strawberries
- 15 frozen raspberries
- 10 frozen blackberries
- 15 frozen blueberries
- 3 oz. favorite berry yogurt (optional)
- ice cubes
Directions:
Place all ingredients in a blender; blend until smooth.
Pour into cups & serve.
Freezer Friendly Instructions:
No prep option – grab & go:
If you want to freeze these to be fast & ready on the go, one unique way to do this is to first make your smoothies. Then pour them into mason jars or to-go cups with lids and put these in the freezer. Make sure to leave about 1 – 2″ of room at the top of the cup because they expand when frozen.
If you want to use disposable plastic cups with kids (you could still recycle these by rinsing them out & reusing) – these Clear Plastic Cups with Lids work well from Amazon (similar to what you’d buy at the restaurant to drink your smoothie or iced coffee). But, you can also just use reusable plastic cups with lids & straws or mason jars are an inexpensive option for storing the smoothies & then drinking during the day.
When you are ready to use the smoothie, take it out first thing in the morning and it will typically be ready in about an hour to drink. If you want to thaw it quickly, you can set it in the sink for a cool water bath.
Freeze & add liquid:
A more typical way to freeze them would be to freeze the fruit all in one freezer-safe ziploc bag (make sure to get all of the air out & leave a little room for the fruit to expand). You can then dump the frozen fruit into the blender & add in your fresh liquid to blend (which makes it easier for the blender to blend with the 1/2 liquid & 1/2 frozen). This is also very quick, just a few quick steps to add the frozen fruit & then the juices in liquid form.
