Candied Popcorn Recipe – Gourmet Popcorn for a Crowd!
This is one my two boys LOVE, mostly because they love popcorn, and what is better than popcorn than candied popcorn! I found paper popcorn boxes at the dollar store and at our local Target . We made the candied popcorn in various colors, and then put it in clear gift bags. We then placed the bags of popcorn in the popcorn box with a tag and a fun ribbon.
This is such a fun way to make a gift for someone who loves gourmet popcorn, and it is also the perfect make ahead treat for school parties or Holiday parties. You can make the popcorn in whatever color you want. You could do blue and green – or whatever colors your favorite football team wears – and use it for a game day party. If you are using for a Seahawks game, we even have free printable Popcorn cones you could put it in here. We made this recipe for a Fall party, but you could do it for Christmas by making the popcorn green and red too, for example.
There are only a few ingredients needed. Popcorn is very affordable, so if you have some of the other items already in your pantry, it can be a super way to treat a crowd on a budget too.
Candied Popcorn Recipe:
Ingredients Needed to Make Candied Popcorn:
- 12 cups popped corn
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup butter (no substitute)
- ½ cup corn syrup
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon vanilla
- Food coloring {if desired}
Directions:
Spread out popcorn on wax paper or parchment paper
In a large pot, bring sugar, butter and corn syrup to a boil.
Boil for 2 minutes.
Add baking soda, vanilla and food coloring {or flavored kool aid packet} to mixture .
Pour Sugar mixture over popcorn. Mix it all together.
Cool completely before packaging.
Helpful Hint: Use cream food coloring – it is less messy and more concentrated then drop food coloring. You can also use flavored kool-aid packets to color and flavor instead of food coloring.
You could substitute your favorite flavor of popcorn for this fun treat idea too (caramel, cheddar, etc). Great gift idea that your kids can get involved in to make for the neighbors, teachers, friends & more for fall, Christmas, spring & more. Just change up the colors of the popcorn for any season or holiday!
